Research Project Title
Ecology and conservation biology of the Murray hardyhead
Description
The Murray hardyhead Craterocephalus fluviatilis (Pisces: Atherinidae) (McCulloch 1913) is a threatened small fish species (<7cm TL) that is native to the southern Murray-Darling Basin. No scientific research has been published specifically regarding the Murray hardyhead. The research will present an ecological framework for understanding where and why the species remains, and how this might be related to variability in river conditions and habitat. Further research will compare the distribution and abundance of the Murray hardyhead with the closely related species unspecked hardyhead, C. stercusmuscarum fulvus, which is abundant throughout the River Murray.
