Research Project Title
Desalination options for metropolitan Adelaide
Description
Metropolitan Adelaide receives between 50 and 90% of its potable water requirements from the River Murray. This water source is gradually degrading. As a result, we are looking at desalination options for augmenting Adelaide`s water supply. Desalination technologies are energy intensive and can be expensive compared with conventional water sources. As an alternative, we are developing a new low-energy desalting process called Forward Osmosis. This process has the potential to substantially decrease the cost of water produced by desalination.
